I am a person who likes to keep life simple. While I enjoy adventure and life’s changes, I prefer to have a few set routines in my life. A certain amount of predictability helps to keep things stable around here. However, sometimes there are things that happen in life that require us to change. I guess I am old school, but I have always used pine bedding for my guinea pigs. I know that many feel that this is not a good option, but my guinea pigs have always enjoyed it (eating it, playing in it, etc.) and have never had any adverse reactions to it.
I would have probably continued to use it if it had it not been for this past week. I had a rather bad experience with the pine bedding at Tractor Supply Co., which you can read about here (Our Crazy Weekend). The switch in bedding became more necessary when I could not find pine bedding at Walmart. We had checked two different stores in two different cities that both used to carry it. We even looked at one of the stores again on another day. With no pine bedding in stock and none left at the house I had to make a quick decision. I have always bought the bedding at Walmart due to its low price, and recently I started using the bedding sold at Tractor Supply Co. because it was even cheaper. (Sorry local pet stores, but your bedding prices are way too high!) After one final look at Walmart, I took the plunge and went to Joann’s to pick up some fleece. Now before all the mishaps, I had been strongly considering making the switch. I have not seen any strong disadvantages to using fleece, but rather I have seen so many good reviews and comments. For many people, it has saved them a lot of money and time. It also seems to keep pigs cleaner and dryer when the fleece has been prepared properly. I have been using fleece for only a few days, but I will give a more detailed review to let you all know how it goes. So far it seems to be going well and the piggies seem to be doing fine. I am hoping that this will work for us. Feel free to share any of your experiences (good or bad) with fleece bedding 😀
